Mission: The department is to continuously review and evaluate the hospital 's internal control system to ensure that it is efficient in design and effective in operation with the aim of achieving the hospital 's set goals which is the provision of quality health care delivery to patients.

Functions of the internal audit department (1 ) Main Functions: The main function of internal audit department is to design and review the adequacy effectiveness and application of internal controls, check compliance with management guidelines , internal control system and ascertain the reliability and timeliness of management information generated by the system. (2 )Other subsidiary functions: a. The internal audit shall ensure from time to time, that the system for the control of collections of revenues is adequate and that all monies received are properly and promptly brought into the account of the hospital. b .The internal audit department shall ensure that all measures put in place by the hospital board and management to safeguard the hospital's asset are strictly complied with. c. The internal audit department shall install measures that will ensure prevention and early detection of frauds, errors and irregularities. d .The internal audit department shall carry out investigations of any incidents of financial fraud and or irregularities and/or irregularities. e .The internal audit department shall prepare and submit to the office of Chief Medical Director the following reports : - Monthly reports -quarterly reports -half year reports -annual reports -special or exceptional reports on the various aspects of the hospitals operations as may be necessary. f .The internal audit department shall always ensure that the appropriate authority approves any hospital transaction .

1. Lack of adequate Office space for members of audit staff 2. Need for more training and Re-Training of members of staff 3. Lack of computerization and networking of internal audit department with account and other departments for seamless monitoring of operational activities within the system .

Additional Information

1. Lack of adequate working space has been affecting the department negatively as the officers couldn't work under a conducive environment which affect their productivity 2. Provision of unbiased, objective and timely reports becomes difficult 3. The department finds it so difficult to be aware of some contemporary accounting related issues in the society due to lack of training exposure.
