The Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, has been honoured with the prestigious Nelson Mandela International Leadership Award for his exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The award ceremony which was held at the White Plain Hotel & Suites witness top Government Officials, Health Sector Stakeholders, Civil Society leaders, and members of the academia in attendance.
Dr. Afolabi, while receiving the award, dedicated it to God Almighty, the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and the Management Committee of the hospital . He said the recognition would not have been possible without the Governor’s commitment to the health sector and the teamwork of the hospital’s Management Committee and staff.
In addition to the award, the CMD was also inducted into the Hall of Fame as International Human Right African Medical Personnel and Royal Ambassador by the International Peace Human Rights Education Council in recognition of his consistent service, innovation in public health outreach, and dedication to making quality healthcare accessible to the people of Osun State.
Speaking after the investiture, Dr. Afolabi reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the late Nelson Mandela, noting that leadership must be people-centered, compassionate and focused on service to humanity. He pledged to use the honour as motivation to do more in expanding specialist care, health outreach programmes and institutional reforms at the hospital.
The Nelson Mandela International Leadership Award celebrates leaders who demonstrate integrity, vision, and impact in their various fields across Africa and beyond.
