I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Babatunde Afolabi closely for the first time in 2019, when he chaired a reconciliation committee set up by the Management of Uniosun Teaching Hospital. The committee aimed to mediate between the leadership of one of the Hospital Workers' unions and the aggrieved members of the union tagged "Group 2012." I was one of the aggrieved members invited by the then-management. Dr. Afolabi's exceptional leadership skills and ability to promote peace and understanding among workers left a lasting impression on me at the end of the sitting.
A Leader's Journey
Dr. Afolabi's presentation and mediation style were impressive, and he effectively communicated the importance of peace in enhancing productivity and delivering quality healthcare to patients. His commitment to peace and leadership abilities were evident, and I recall thinking that he had the potential to lead a large organization. I was already seeing him taking charge of a critical healthcare institution like UTH.
A New Chapter
Fast-forward to October 3rd, 2024, when Governor Adeleke announced Dr. Afolabi as the substantive Chief Medical Director of Uniosun Teaching Hospital. I was not surprised by this appointment, given his exceptional leadership qualities and experience. He was well-prepared for the office.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Afolabi served in many capacities at various times. According to him, in one of our interactions, he said, "My inspiring journey is a testament to grace and perseverance; the journey has not been an easy one."
