In a historic and commendable move, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, became the first CMD to attend the Workers’ Day rally since the hospital’s establishment.
Dr. Afolabi joined Governor Ademola Adeleke, cabinet members, and numerous labour unions at the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration in Osogbo. He used the opportunity to commend the Governor’s unwavering commitment to worker welfare, noting Osun’s recognition for paying the second-best minimum wage in Nigeria and improving service conditions for over 200 hospital staff.
“Governor Adeleke has done well for Osun workers. I deeply appreciate his efforts and urge us all to continue praying for his success,” Dr. Afolabi stated at the rally.
In a heartfelt message to all hospital staff—personally signed by him—the CMD expressed gratitude for the workers’ resilience, dedication, and impact on the hospital’s excellence.
“Your tireless efforts and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in building our reputation for quality healthcare,” he said.
“Despite the challenges we’ve faced, you have remained resilient and compassionate. It is a privilege to lead such a hardworking team. Continue to pursue excellence in all you do—your sacrifices do not go unnoticed.”
The 2025 Workers’ Day event also featured prominent union representatives, including:
- National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM)
- Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU)
- Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN)
- National Union of Health and Allied Practitioners (NUHAP)
Dr. Afolabi’s presence at the rally marks a new era of inclusive leadership and solidarity with healthcare workers across Osun State.
