In a significant development for the people of Osun State, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Dr Babatunde Afolabi, alongside His Royal Highness Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye II, the Ataoja of Osogbo, have jointly reaffirmed that the disputed land along Station Road, Osogbo, was duly allocated many years ago for the development of the teaching hospital.
Dr Afolabi disclosed that the land was originally allocated in 1966 and all supporting documents are properly filed and available at the Ministry of Lands, Physical Planning, and in the Office of the Surveyor-General. He noted that the hospital has always operated peacefully but was compelled to seek legal protection following recent claims from some individuals, known as Omo-Onile, who alleged ancestral ownership of the property.
“We have obtained a stay of execution and are ready to defend our rightful ownership in court with valid documentation. We call on all concerned parties to follow due legal process,” the CMD stated.
In a strong show of community backing, HRH Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye II, accompanied by palace chiefs, visited the disputed land and confirmed that it was allocated to the former LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, now UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital. He described the land as part of his royal heritage entrusted for public good.
“This land belongs to the Osogbo community and was set aside for a noble cause. I stand by the hospital and will continue to defend this allocation in the interest of public health and community development,” the Ataoja declared.
The revered monarch called on the Osun State Government to support the development initiative by providing the necessary funding, highlighting its potential to uplift healthcare delivery in the state.
Dr Afolabi also extended heartfelt appreciation to Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Ataoja-in-Council for their continued support. He reaffirmed the hospital's dedication to transforming the land into a world-class medical facility that will serve the entire state.
“The hospital remains committed to developing the land for the benefit of humanity. This proposed project will expand access to healthcare, enhance medical training, and strengthen our public health infrastructure,” Dr Afolabi concluded.
Both the CMD and the Ataoja of Osogbo called for peace and cooperation among all stakeholders, urging claimants to work towards a resolution that prioritises the welfare of the Osun community.
