UNIOSUN TEACHING HOSPITAL: A BEACON OF HOPE, NOT A DEATH TRAP
— CMD Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Healthcare in Osun State
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Dr Babatunde Afolabi, has firmly refuted claims suggesting the hospital is a "death trap" where patients die indiscriminately. Speaking during a monitored interview on Fresh FM radio in Osogbo, Dr Afolabi reassured the public of the hospital’s unwavering commitment to saving lives through professional and compassionate healthcare delivery.
According to the CMD, the hospital is staffed with competent, well-trained, and dedicated professionals who prioritise patient care above all else. He explained that in many cases, patients arrive at the hospital in critical conditions after seeking treatment from unqualified sources, which complicates their health outcomes.
Despite these challenges, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital continues to strive to resuscitate and manage such patients effectively.
Dr Afolabi emphasised the hospital’s ongoing rebranding efforts, noting that the era of needing personal connections to access medical care is over. “Patients can now walk in freely and receive prompt medical attention,” he stated.
While acknowledging the persistent issues of limited funding and equipment maintenance, the CMD expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for his unwavering support. He also called on the public and philanthropic individuals to collaborate with the hospital in enhancing service delivery. Several donors, he noted, have already contributed to the hospital’s ongoing improvements.
Reflecting on his six-month tenure as CMD, Dr Afolabi highlighted key achievements and credited Governor Adeleke's visionary leadership for the hospital’s growing success.
He urged residents to bring their loved ones directly to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, rather than relying on substandard healthcare providers that may worsen patients’ conditions. With continued support from stakeholders and the public, Dr Afolabi remains optimistic about the future of healthcare in Osun State.
