Milestones from the First Year of Dr Babatunde Afolabi’s Tenure as Chief Medical Director

Infrastructural Transformation

UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital has undergone extensive upgrades across its facilities:

- Renovation of key offices, including the CMD’s Office and Board Room, now equipped with modern conference amenities.  

- Construction of a new carport for staff and visitors.  

- Refurbishment of the OSHIA/OHIS building to enhance health insurance coordination.  

- Establishment of a centralised Health Information Management (HIM) facility for digitised patient records.  

- Installation of CCTV systems to improve security.  

- Acquisition of two Mikano generators (100KVA and 50KVA) to ensure uninterrupted power supply.  

- Rehabilitation and sanitation of the mortuary complex.  

- Overhaul of waste management systems, including a central dumpsite and daily evacuation.  

- Landscaping and rebranding of the hospital compound for improved aesthetics and navigation.

Energy, Power and Environmental Health

- Deployment of multiple inverters and 50 solar-powered streetlights.  

- Installation of a borehole to guarantee consistent water supply.  

- Salary enhancements for environmental and maintenance staff.  

- Daily waste clearance and sustained environmental hygiene across the premises.

Clinical Services and Equipment Upgrade

- Procurement of modern beds, surgical drapes, CPAP machines, and diagnostic tools.

- Execution of the “Imole Free Medical Outreach”, benefitting thousands across Osun State.  

- Approval of ₦200 million for theatre renovation and ₦40 million for staff and patient welfare.  

- Installation of an oxygen plant and restoration of electricity supply.  

- Historic visit by the Governor—the first in over a decade—signalling renewed government confidence.
